Position Open: Conductor, Jr. Wind Ensemble Pilot Program, Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia
Skilled, energetic and experienced wind ensemble conductor needed to start a Jr. Wind Ensemble program (grades 6-9) as part of the Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia. Conductor will aid in recruiting and auditioning students in June through September. Conductor will select and prepare music, teach Monday nights at Norview MS or HS in Norfolk, VA during the Bay Youth season for 1-1 ½ hour rehearsals, attend BYOV staff meetings and prepare students for 2-3 concerts per year. BYOV has professional administrative staff for support of program. Starting salary is $4000 per year. Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia has been providing superior symphonic music training for students of Hampton Roads for over forty years. Students must be members of their school music programs to participate in BYOV. Members include public school, private school and home school students from throughout the area. Coaching sessions from professional musicians of the Virginia Symphony are provided on a regular basis. Yearly, each ensemble performs on three to four concerts in the best venues including Chrysler Hall, Sandler Center, Regent University Theater, Norfolk Academy Johnson Theater, Norfolk State Wilder Center and many of the area’s middle schools and high schools.
